Fitness areas are convenient and fun ways to do fitness in your neighborhood. This is the Powell Barnett area on Martin Luther King Way, one of several co-sponsored by Kaiser Permanente Washington.
The free fitness-and-fun place to be on August 19
Get set for another Big Day of Play. Kaiser Permanente is happy to co-sponsor this year’s event together with Seattle Parks and Recreation. Big Day of Play is a great way to meet your neighbors for fun activities, dance and music performances, food, and healthy connections. All while learning about how to get more exercise and have more energy in fitness areas at community centers all around Seattle.

Free activities for the whole family
Don’t miss out on:
- Roller derby skills training clinic
- Inflatable obstacle course
- 3-on-3 basketball and ultimate flag football
- Pickleball and ultimate frisbee
- Goal ball (team sport for low to no vision players)
- Sepak Takraw (kick volleyball)
- Rainbow bingo
- And more!
You’re also invited to try sailing, rowing, and stand-up paddle boarding free at the Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center. Walk down to the lake through Genesee Park, or take the event shuttle, which runs every 15 minutes between the southeast corner of Rainier Community Center and the Rowing and Sailing Center.
Enjoy music, dancing, food, and fun
This event brings you free performances from local dancers and musicians. And of course, please feel free to dance yourself! Food trucks will be there, and you can always help yourself to some free, healthy snacks from Kaiser Permanente.
Preview free fitness area installations at local parks and community centers
Check out the free outdoor fitness equipment to be installed this year at Georgetown Playfield. We’ll have equipment such as adjustable-resistance elliptical, chest/back press, squat press, assisted row/pushup, and ab crunch/leg lift. These outdoor fitness areas feature ergonomic equipment designed for all sizes and shapes, accessible whatever your physical ability and fitness level.
Kaiser Permanente Washington co-sponsors four Seattle fitness equipment sites: Powell Barnett Park, Van Asselt Community Center, Hiawatha Community Center, and Delridge Community Center. Over the coming year, we’ll co-sponsor new fitness areas at Pratt Park, Brighton Playfield, and North Rainier Landbank, as well as Georgetown Playfield.
